Hi, I’m Sara Levene, Genetic Counsellor.
At Guided Genetics, I don’t just provide information — I provide guidance, reassurance, and a clear path forward.
About me
I am a Consultant Genetic Counsellor and a nationally recognised leader in the field of Genetic Counselling. I have over 25 years of experience, leading services and helping patients in both the NHS and private sectors.
As an Independent Consultant Genetic Counsellor and founder of Guided Genetics, I provide private genetic counselling to patients, and professional support to private clinics (fertility, antenatal, and other services).
My passion is helping people understand genetics and integrate this knowledge into real-life decision making for you and your family.
As a counsellor, I know that families are naturally complex and I have seen first hand that genetic tests can have wide ranging impact in families.
I believe in the importance of giving clear explanations of risks, implications and choices, whilst listening to individual needs and priorities for your family.
I want to ensure that people can access high quality genetic testing when needed, with support for decision making and thorough explanation of results.
Areas of Expertise and Experience
18 years of NHS experience at Guy’s Hospital, London, in cancer genetics, working with families affected by BRCA1/2 genes, Lynch syndrome (bowel cancer predisposition) and other rare cancer syndromes.
Many years working with families affected with a wide range of other genetic conditions (eg. Huntington disease, chromosome translocations, neuromuscular conditions, and rare genetic syndromes affecting child development).
Leadership of the Tay Sachs screening service at Guy’s Hospital, in partnership with the charity Jewish Care, and later was involved in the establishment of a new charity, Jnetics, and the expansion of Tay Sachs screening to a panel of genetic conditions for the Jewish population.
Primary focus on Pre-implantation Genetic Testing (PGT) of embryos, initially with the Assisted Conception Unit at Guy’s Hospital. From 2017 to 2025, I led the PGT programme at the prestigious private IVF clinic, The Centre for Reproductive & Genetic Health (CRGH).
